text ✓ The Senior Prefect Ð Dorita Fairlie Bruce Originally published as The Senior Prefect in 1921 and renamed Dimsie Go I highly recommend the entire Dimsie series nine novels and a collection of short stories Dorita Fairlie Bruce wrote a total of five schoolgirl series; the first Dimsie book of nine total was The Senior Prefect later re issued as Dimsie Goes to School Miss Bruce's first published novel 1920 She continued to produce Dimsie books until 1940 Miss Bruce's other girls' school series stories are Springdale St Bride's Tobey and Sally She also wrote a series of loosely connected juvenile historical novels known collectively as the Colmskirk seriesI discovered Dimsie in London in 1961 when I was 12 and managed to collect the first four books at that time these were Spring Books editions with original text but modernized artwork They cost two and six each euivalent to thirty five US cents at that time As an adult I tracked down all of Bruce's work including first editions of all the Dimsies considerably expensive If you like school stories and haven't yet discovered Bruce I suggest you start with Dimsie Most of the books can be found online from various sellers although the Colmskirk ones can be difficult to find and expensive One word of warning steer clear of the John Goodchild Dimsie editions issued in the 1980s they are heavily sometimes ridiculously edited Stick with the oroginal Oxford University Press editions or the Spring Books editions which are at least complete and unaltered
