If you are interested in this book because you are a fan of the TV show I think you will be disapponted There is actually very little about the show here The author will mention a show by title for instance the show titled Ashes to Ashes deals with incident simulation using a computer then it will go on to tell you about how that forensic tool works The basic premise of the book is that the TV show has generated interest in forensics as a career but aside from that there really isn't anything else about the show itself If you have read other books about forensic science I don't think there is a lot new here On the other hand if forensic science is new to you this is an easily read and understood book I just wouldn't pick it up thinking you are going to learn about the TV show

The definition of the CSI effect is Because of the tv shows people on juries believe they know all about forensic science and investigation They're wrong but they don't know that and their errors can impact the outcome of a caseHence the book is titled The CSI Effect making the readers to think that's what the book is aboutSo I proceed to read the first chapter and it's all about how forensic science works with occasional references to past cases At the same time the author explains the rationale of how the episodes on CSI are constructedAfter reading a few pages I suddenly gave up and refused to read any furtherWho the hell cares about the garbage TV show Why do I want to go through the relearning of forensic science when I have read about it already in other books Ditto for the many old casesThe point is the book was supposed to be about expanding on the CSI effect because the author started the ball on it Instead I am completely misledAll in all memo to author it's not nice to fool the readers and if she is not going to talk about the CSI effect don't bother bringing it up because it has no relevance to the rest of the book
