review ñ eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF ☆ Florence Marryat

The Blood of the Vampire Ö Appearing the same year as Dracula Marryat's novel is fascinating not only for its sensational plot and bizarre characters but also because of its engagement with many of the issues that haunted the late Victorian imagination such as race heredity women's roles Spiritualism and the occult This edition includes the unabridged text of the exceedingly rare first edition and a new introduction by Brenda Hammack. Marryat’s vampire story was published in 1897 the same year that Bram Stoker's Dracula was released and thus is a rather unknown vampire story This actually surprised me as her novel is frightening subtly disturbing and has a rather modern concept Instead of drinking blood Harriet Brand is a psychic vampire who draws the life out of those she loves While I do not think it is uite as brilliant as some other classic vampire novels from this period it is still excellently written and I only really had an issue with the long gossiping scenes which made it at times a little tedious to read Having said that The Blood of The Vampire is stereotypical of its time but also very uniue in the way vampirism works and thus it sets itself apart from others If you are a fan of classic vampire tales this is definitely a must read for you review ñ eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF ☆ Florence Marryat
